Some Aegean islands fell subject to Mycenaen control. Mycenae itself spread outward militarily and conquering Crete. Homer: Greeks in a Dark Age: Is a man who made stories into other stories or a poet. Proved to be of greater value to later Greeks. Gave Greeks an ideal cast of their heroes. Taught values of courage and of honor. Epic Poem: Long poem that tells the deeds of a great hero. Arete: A hero that strives for excellence.
